What is a Limited Edition Print?
A limited edition print is one in which a limit is placed on the number of prints produced in a particular edition, in order to create a scarcity of the print. Each set of identical limited edition prints are signed and numbered by the artist. The image will not be published again in the same form but may be used for publication e.g. editorial (magazines/books) or CD sleeves. It is understood that once this edition number has been set that the photographer will not produce any further prints of that stated nature from this particular negative.
In the selection featured on these pages, all the above statements apply and once an edition is sold, it will never be produced in the same way again and therefore represent a genuine collectable artwork. The number of prints in a limited edition set will vary - e.g. one set may consist of 250 prints, whereas another may be extremely limited with only 10 copies produced. Therefore, prices will also vary to reflecting this obscurity. All these details are listed on this site alongside the image, including sizes available.
The images
Each print is created using a high resolution digital file taken from the original negative. It is produced as a digital fine art print using the Giclée printing process on archival fine art paper. The final product, kept in the right conditions, will last many lifetimes! All prints are signed, numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with Care of Your Print information.
What is giclée
Large strides have been made in the development of the archival inkjet printing process over the last 10 years and these have been a revelation for the field of photography and image reproduction. The word giclée, from the French verb gicler meaning to squirt/to spray as a fine art term, has come to be associated with prints made using fade resistant archival inks. This sophisticated inkjet process employs a larger colour range, creating truer shades and hues and a higher degree of accuracy and richness.
